Polystabilat: POLYgeneration through gasification of the solid recovered fuel STABILAT.
    The aim of this project is the development ofa pilot scale facility to examine the utilization of  the lower quality solid recovered fuel (SRF) produced by HelectorRecyclingCenterOsnabrückGmbH (marketed under the name Trockenstabilat®, or simply Stabilat®) in a fluidized bed gasification plant resulting in the co-generation of power and heat. The plant will treat 300 kg/h Stabilat® and will be located next to the MBT plant that Helector’s subsidiary operates in Osnabrück (Germany).  Another aim is to upgrade Stabilat® (by combining it with biomass in predefined mixtures) into a high quality fuel that may find extended application in the industrial heat market.
    The innovative combination of the above technological concepts has several advantages:

    1. Prove the energy utilization of low quality solid recovered fuel (SRF) in a fluidized bed gasification unit eliminating the need for its end-disposal and transport over long distances to end-users,
    2. Integration of the gasification plant with the MSW treatment facility to provide a controlled outlet for all disposal streams originating from the gasification and syngas cleaning subsystems.
    3.  Improvement of Stabilat® (by mixing it with biomass) so that it is more attractive to the industry as a high quality fuel based on strict specifications under CEN guidelines

    The project is funded by EC under the 7th Framework program. Apart from Helector S.A (which is the coordinator) in the project also participate the National Technical University of Athens, USTUTT (UniversityofStuttgart)and VUB (VrijeUniversiteitBrussel).
